“You Should Have Been Here Last Week!”

Well, we’ve all heard this before haven’t we? In this case it has some merit in that phrase. I could have titled this post “BLOWN OUT” as that is the state of Pine Creek pretty much as I’m writing this.

But last week… before it starting raining – that is another story.

During the first 8 days of May here in the Pine Creek Valley, we got almost 3.4″ of rain. Yes, it’s blown Pine Creek ‘up’ or ‘out’ as all the rain occurring over a relatively short period of time will do that. All we can do is wait it out and allow the ‘Crik’ to come back down – if it will stop raining long enough for it to do just that.

I have been back for some time now and, like a record stuck repeating a certain phrase, I’ve managed to weasel a few fish from their local haunts – enough to make me interested at least.

A nice Brookie in my book!

The Hendrickson’s are over now but that is what seemed to work good enough where I was fishing. Saw them down here on Pine also and when you could get to a location where there was some broken, faster water, they collected themselves stream-side on whatever they could gather upon.

Was pleasantly surprised to see a Brown up where I was fishing!

First time out I caught a few and missed a few. I’ll chalk it up (not connecting to so many the first round) to just getting my timing back into shape and for not reacting to the swift hits from those Brookies. But the second time out – I don’t think I missed a single fish. Caught several and had a great time. Although, I must say – while not catching a single fish (that first time out), a great time can be had. It’s just that when you can catch a few of these mountain gems – it’s like the ‘cherry on top’ of that banana split! That was a good day when I caught all theses fish!

Another fine Brookie in my book!

Then I was ready to leave and thought, ‘Why not, just a few more casts?’

Well it’ll be awhile till Pine comes back into decent fishing shape. Oh, the ‘Blue Lines’ will come back a little earlier but they’re pretty much high and torrid as I write this also.

We’ll all just have to wait it out. Maybe if we were smart we’d be tying Green Drakes about now eh?

Till we see each other again, I’m UB – the ‘unintentional blogger’.
