I am remiss in my duties to report what has been happening in the greater Slate Run area. I left the area a couple of days ago and I was witnessing the Green Drakes on Pine in the few hours before sunset (again, when I was there a few nights ago)! They, the Green Drakes, weren’t coming back to the water to lay eggs yet but I fear that they might already have done this deed and packed up shop for next year already – maybe. I saw plenty of them in the trees aligning Pine and plenty in the air flying upstream like mayflies do, but they weren’t ‘touching down’ and actually depositing the next generation.

If ANYONE has anything to share about this, please feel free to make comment on the situation there.

Was able to capture this one in a long needled pine along Pine Creek (above). I hope some of you have witnessed this and got to fish them!

I had moderate success out on Pine that evening. I wouldn’t say that I ‘slayed’ them but I caught a few and had a nice ‘last’ evening before I departed for the Memorial Day weekend.

I’m seeing plenty of these along the stream too (below) – unfortunately!

I’ve heard and seen a crop-dusting airplane in the Slate Run area spraying the mountains for the Spongy Moth. They certainly seem to be still in good numbers down in the valley in Slate Run though. I hope that the spraying helps.

I did manage a Brown in the evening. Put a smile on my face for sure.

Well, I’m sitting here back in Michigan and I’m pretty sure I’m missing what’s left of the Green Drake action. Oh well, there’s next year hopefully!

I am coming back to Slate Run after the Memorial Day holiday though! I’m hoping the Slate Drakes are good this year. I didn’t see massive numbers of March Browns, missed the peak of the Green Drakes, didn’t really see the Grey Foxes or Sulphurs – so I hope I can catch the Slate Drakes and maybe even the real dark winged Blue-Winged Olives that I saw a few years back. Time shall tell.
